The Dortmund Wanderers announced on Saturday that the 26-year-old catcher Trevor Howell has extended his contract until the end of the 2010 season. He led the team in all major offensive categories besides stolen bases last year and was ranked among the leaders in the northern division of the Baseball-Bundesliga. He batted .411 (OBP .490/SLG .644) with four homeruns, 21 runs and 21 RBI in 24 games.
Howell is working as a catching and hitting coach at Monterey Peninsula College in California, where he had played during his college career. Dortmund already had revealed that Matt Kemp takes over head coach duties a few weeks ago. Other acquisitions will be published in a few days. The Wanderers open the new season on April 3rd with a doubleheader against their former coach Jens Hawlitzky and the HSV Stealers.
