The 23-year-old Trent Schmutter of his hometown Sydney Blue Sox was named Rookie of the Year in the Australian Baseball League on Wednesday. Having never played professionally before the outfielder batted a sixth best .316 (OBP .396/SLG .398) with one homerun, five doubles, 15 runs and twelve RBI in 29 games. He received 70 votes, edging out Rory Rhodes (Brisbane Bandits) and Alex Johnson (Sydney Blue Sox). All coaches, media representatives, scouts and staff, which followed the Australian Baseball League, took part in the voting process.
