Tjerk Smeets has ended his active playing career and will take over as head coach of the former Hoofdklasse club RCH Pinguins according to a report on Honkbalsite.com. The 30-year-old catcher played in his fifth season for Corendon Kinheim this year. The former national team player already took first steps as a coach when he attended a special course during the winter and served as bullpen coach for the Dutch National Team under manager Jim Stoeckel at the Haarlemse Honkbalweek and the European Championship in Germany. RCH got relegated from the Hoofdklasse last year.
