The Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg sent out a press release on Friday morning, inviting to a press conference next Wednesday, November 2. Vice President and Scouting Director Bob Engle of the Seattle Mariners will come to Germany to sign right-handed pitcher Daniel Thieben to a minor league contract. The signature was expected since a report a couple of weeks ago.
Thieben, who came to Regensburg from the Dohren Wild Farmers last winter, hasn’t played much in the German Baseball-Bundesliga so far, but still made his senior national team debut at the 2011 IBAF Baseball World Cup in Panama this month. The 18-year-old also attended the MLB European Academy in Tirrenia, Italy this summer.
Additionally the press release states that MLB International will come to Regensburg next week for a series of meetings with Mike McClellan (Senior Program Manager/Game Development), Dominick Balsamo (Senior Director/Sponsorship & Communications) and Tom Gillespie (European Academies Consultant) being on hand at the press conference as well. The Sport Boarding School in Regensburg will get a full time coach with Stefan Mueller. MLB is helping covering his payment.
