Team USA continues winning streak on European ground
Team USA goes to 2-0 at the World University Baseball Championships with a 8-2 win against the Czech Republic in the night game on Saturday. Mike Minor, who beat Cuba twice at the Haarlemse Honkbal Week, struck out seven in six solid innings to pick up the win. Jared Clark hit a two-run homerun and drove in three. Josh Fellhauer scored three times. Daniel Mraz pitched four innings, allowing four runs (3 ER) on five hits and two walks to take the loss.
Earlier in the day Korea shut out Lithuania 11-0 behind ten strikeouts in five scoreless innings by starter Bon Beom Gu. Sung Yong Na had two hits and three RBI. Edgaras Matusevicius gave up seven hits, six runs (5 ER) and a walk in five innings.
In a duel between two Asian teams, Japan defeated Taiwan 2-1. Shinji Iwata needed 132 pitches to get the complete game win. He allowed just one run on four hits and three base on balls. He struck out eight.
