Team Germany and Team USA square off in Regensburg
by Dirk Fries
This Tuesday Team Germany, coming off a seven-game sweep of the French, will face the USA National Team in Regensburg. Team USA is coming over from the Netherlands, participating in the elite Haarlem Honkbal Week. The biannual tournament was again put together by world class teams and talent, including CUBA, JAPAN, TAIWAN and the NETHERLANDS Team.
The USA Team is made up by top-level College players who are not yet draft eligible. It includes recent College World Series participants and the tournament’s Most Outstanding Player Tommy Mendonca (Fresno State University). The other players are also top talent players from powerhouse Division I schools. Not surprisingly these guys needed little time showing that they can handle the wooden bat, including two victories against CUBA with all their international veterans aboard.
After the Haarlem tournament Team USA is headed to the Czech Republic to participate in the World University Championships. The single game against the German squad is going to be played Tuesday night in Regensburg´s Armin Wolf Arena. First pitch is scheduled for 7 pm CET.
