Last March the Confederation of European Baseball (CEB) awarded the German Baseball and Softball Federation (DBV) with the 2010 European Championship (EC). Now the hosting cities are identified. Stuttgart, Heidenheim and Tuebingen in the southwest of Germany are going to organize the event together.
According to the website of the Baseball-Bundesliga club HEIDEKOEPFE the EC will take place in July 2010. However the deal isn’t official yet, as a few renovations at the ballparks have to be made. In Stuttgart and Heidenheim the stands and the lightning systems need a few refurbishments. In Tuebingen the field requires a complete overhaul.
The twelve participating countries are already known after the Qualifiers took place this summer. Besides host Germany and the defending champion Netherlands, Great Britain, France, Sweden, Italy, Czech Republic, Ukraine, Croatia, Belgium, Spain and Greece will also send teams to the three cities.
The last time Germany hosted a European Baseball Championship was in 2001, when Bonn, Cologne and Solingen organized the tournament.
