Strasburg with 13 K’s in 7 No-Hit Innings for USA at WUBC

Team USA won their opener at the World University Baseball Championships in the Czech Republic on Friday 5-2 against Korea. Star of the game was starting pitcher Stephen Strasburg, who was also named to the Olympic roster this week, with 13 strikeouts in seven no-hit innings. His only miscue was a walk in the sixth. He had to settle for a no-decision, as Korea tied the game in the eighth, though team USA came back, scoring four runs in the top of the ninth to decide the outcome. Ryan Jackson and Blake Smith hit homeruns.

In the afternoon and evening games, the Taiwan defeated Canada 6-4 and the Czech Republic celebrated a 5-0 shutout against Lithuania. Boris Bokai picked up the win with seven strong innings, allowing three hits and two walks, while striking out nine.
