The Stockholm Monarchs have won the Swedish Elitserien Championship. They completed a three-game sweep in the finals on Saturday over the Sölvesborg Firehawks.
In the decisive third match of the series Stockholm scored four runs in the first and four in the eighth of a 13-3 victory. Finals MVP Matt Merrifield and Pontus Byström combined for seven RBI. Jakob Claesson pitched eight strong innings for the win. Paul Waterman got charged with the loss.
For Stockholm it’s the sixth title in club history, which gives them sole possession of third place in the all-time ranking behind Leksand (20) and Skelleftea (8). It also was their third consecutive championship.
