The Southern All Stars have won the first edition of the Sydney Invitational Women’s Baseball Tournament thanks to a 10-5 victory in the finals on Monday against the Marlins. After already leading 4-1 after three innings, a four-run fourth blew the game wide open. Amy McCann, who also hit a solo homerun, and Taylor McKay led the way with three hits apiece. The Knights finished in third place, routing a squad from the USA and Canada 12-2 in the bronze medal match.
The tournament started on January 22 at the Blacktown Olympic Park in Sydney, home of the Olympics in 2000. During the preliminary round the Marlins stayed undefeated with a 5-0 record, followed by the Southern All Stars and the Knights, which both won four games. Team USA and Greenway collected two wins each. Overall eight teams participated in the tournament.
