The LEGIONAERE swept also their series on the second game day and took over first place in the standings with a 4-0 record. REGENSBURG scored in five of the seven innings and won due to ten-run rule 11-1 after seven innings in the first part of the doubleheader. Klaus Hopfensperger hit a two-run homerun. Philipp Howard, Alex Lauterbach and Cedric Bassel each scored twice. Martin Almstetter allowed three hits, one unearned run and two walks in four innings. Mike Bolsenbroek got the save with three one-hit innings. Gregor Klinc started for HAAR. He gave up nine runs (8 ER) on twelve hits in 6 1/3 innings.
In the second match of the day, the LEGIONAERE needed a bit longer to decide the outcome. Howard scored the first run in the first after a leadoff triple on a RBI-groundout by Lauterbach. However the DISCIPLES came back and tied it 1-1 on a RBI-single of the hands of Bernard Radovic in the third. With this score the game went into the seventh, when REGENSBURG finally came through again. Marcus Gienger reached home on an error at first. They added three more an inning later on RBI-singles by Bassel and Gienger in addition to a bases loaded walk of Max Kepler-Rozycki. Benedikt Antwi got the start for the home team. He allowed six hits, one run and five walks in 5 2/3 innings. Philipp Hoffschild replaced him and received the win. Theo Gieschen impressed in his first start of the year. The TORNADOS had another tough opponent last weekend. They got a split after two thrilling games against the HEIDEKOEPFE. They won the first game on a walk-off RBI-single by Eddie Aucoin in the ninth frame. He already had provided a sac fly and a two-run homerun. Billy Hess scored twice. David Fuesser (HEI) had tied the game in the seventh with a RBI-single. Geoff Freeborn (MAT) got the starting nod. He allowed five hits, two runs and a walk in six innings. Craig Pycock relieved him and received the win, despite blowing the lead. Markus Winkler (HEI) gave up nine hits, four runs and a base on balls in seven innings. Hagen Raetz took the loss.
The second match saw the much-anticipated duel between Aucoin and Mike Hartley on the mound. Gauting Indians - Saarlouis Hornets 4-7, 5-2

In game one the a big four run third inning capped by a Torsten Dehm two-run double put SAARLOUIS ahead and they never looked back. Ales Keprta went 8 2/3 innings for the victory by striking out five and walking three. With two out and the bases loaded, Patrick Carlson came into the game with the bases loaded to earn the save. But it was the spectacular game ending catch by Johannes Stockhausen grabbing a sinking liner into right center field that sealed the win for the HORNETS. Dominik Hartinger took the loss after pitching six innings. The INDIANS pitching staff combined for 13 walks in the game.
Again the HORNETS jumped out to an early lead, but the story of the second game was the pitching of GAUTINGS’s Matthew Fuller. Fuller was outstanding in keeping HORNET batters off balance striking out eight and walking only two. Fuller allowed eight hits, but only two in the first six innings. Many defensive gems of third baseman Georg Starek and shortstop Seth Binder helped him. Simon Prochaczka (picture) took the loss in his Bundesliga debut, after starting in place of the suspended Chris Sweeney.
HORNETS coach Fred Beitler: “We came to Gauting looking for two wins. We got one win and we were lucky to have got the one that we did. Gauting is a young team and if they can keep the core of young German players in their lineup they have a bright future. Matthew Fuller’s pitching performance was outstanding. He threw strikes, got ahead in the count and kept our hitters off balance all game long. When we did get runners on base it was usually after two were out.”
Neuenburg Atomics - Mainz Athletics 2-10, 2-13
The 2007 German champion ATHLETICS got their first two victories of the season and left the last place in the standings. Martin Kipphan and Benjamin Hieronimi scored twice. Manuel Moeller received his first win of the season after pitching seven innings. Andreas Gerth, who had relieved ATOMICS starter Lars Giemsa in the third, took the loss.
MAINZ took a fast 6-0 lead in the second match, continued to build up the advantage and won easily 13-2. Hieronimi hit a homerun. Daniel Hayes, who also received the win, reached home three times. Stephan Spanjer lasted just one-plus innings on the mound and took the loss.
