The BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE solidified their position in the standings with two lopsided victories against the HORNETS. It was their first sweep in Saarlouis ever.

REGENSBURG took a 7-2 lead in the seventh inning of game one through a three-run homerun by Daniel Husband and even widened the gap afterwards with a two-run homer by Philipp Howard and a grand slam by Jerin Harper to celebrate a 15-2 victory.

The second game began like the second ended with a homerun by Harper, who brought a 2-0 lead for the LEGIONAERE in the first. However SAARLOUIS came back and tied the contest at 3-3 in the sixth on a homerun by Chris Sweeney. But this was just a speed bump on the way to the second pounding of the day. REGENSBURG scored ten runs in the eighth, highlighted by a two-run shot of the hands of Klaus Hopfensperger.

Martin Almstetter and Mike Bolsenbroek (in relief for Benedikt Antwi) received the wins. Ales Keprta and Sweeney had to take the losses.

The 2007 champion ATHLETICS is back on track, climbing back to .500 and into the top four of the standings after a sweep against the INDIANS.

MAINZ overcame a 0-4 deficit to beat GAUTING 7-4 in the first match. The INDIANS put four runs on the board in the third through RBI-singles by Johannes Jung and Christoph Ziegler, in addition to a two-run double by Michael Stephan. But they blew the lead. The A’s scored four runs themselves in the fifth on a two-run single by Max Boldt and a two-run homerun by Martin Kipphan. Mike Larson provided some insurance in the eighth with a solo shot. Manuel Moeller received the win after six innings of work. Dominik Hartinger took the loss.

The ATHLETICS didn’t want more drama in the second part of the twin bill and scored eight runs in the first three frames to take a commanding lead. Sascha Lutz reached three times, scoring once on a steal of home and drove in two. Raeff Hobbs-Brown scored two runs. Martin Kipphan added another homerun. Andre Salcher scored two runs for GAUTING. Daniel Hayes stayed seven innings on the mound for the win. He allowed nine hits, three runs and two walks, while striking out six. Johannes Krumm started for the injured Matt Fuller (on a diving catch in game one) and took the loss after 2 2/3 innings. He was charged with five hits, five runs and nine base on balls.

Haar Disciples - Mannheim Tornados 2-1, 1-22

The people in attendance in Haar saw two complete different games between the DISCIPLES and the TORNADOS. HAAR won the first thanks to a great performance by their pitchers Dirk Fries and Gregor Klinc with a score of 2-1. Damian Cagnarts with a RBI-single and Nate Fish with a solo-homerun brought a 2-0 lead. Chris Falls scored the only MANNHEIM run on a fielder’s choice groundball of Eddie Aucoin. They had a few chances to tie the game, but could not convert any. Dirk Fries pitched seven-plus innings and was replaced with the bases loaded and no outs in the eighth. Closer Gregor Klinc retired the next three batters on a fly out to center and two strikeouts to hold on to the small advantage. Geoff Freeborn took the loss.

The TORNADOS used a ten-run sixth to crush the DISCIPLES 22-1 in game two. Fred Kraft had three hits, walked twice, scored two runs and drove in three. Craig Pycock was three-for-four with four RBI. 17 hits led to 22 runs. They even left 14 runners on base. Eddie Aucoin was happy to receive such an amount of run support and went five innings against his former team for the win. He struck out eight. Theo Gieschen didn’t was replaced with two runners on in the second period to take the loss. But the relievers could not stop the MANNHEIM offense either.

This happens when the best offense faces the weakest pitching staff of the league. The HEIDEKOEPFE crushed the promoted ATOMICS in two games, scoring 36 runs on 36 hits, celebrating two shutouts. They put points on the board in ten of the twelve innings they batted.

Ryan Lilly hit a homerun and scored four times in the 25-0 victory in game one. David Fuesser added four RBI. Robert Gruber had four hits. Peter Dankerl pitched four innings for the win. He allowed two hits and a walks, while striking out two. Lars Giemsa allowed 16 runs (12 ER) in three innings for the loss.

HEIDENHEIM won “just” by eleven runs in the second part of the doubleheader. Keith Maxwell was responsible for the highlight, hitting a grand slam in the five-run fourth. He and Ryan Lilly each had three hits. Mike Hartley struck out four in four four-hit innings for the win. Andreas Gerth took the loss after surrendering eleven runs (7 ER) on 14 hits and a walk in six innings.
