The DORNBIRN SHARX from Austria and the Dutch club TERRASVOGELS picked up the titles at the Softball European Cup tournaments on Saturday. The SHARX shut out the Russian team CAROUSEL BOSCO SPORT 1-0 in the finals of the European Champions Cup in Legnano behind a combined six-hitter of Danielle Spaulding and Stacie Townsend (W 4-1). Townsend also delivered the lone run in the game, driving in leadoff hitter Holly Krzan with a single in the first. CAROUSEL had stunned FIORINI FORLI in the bronze medal match, reaching the finals with a 1-0 victory in eight innings.
In the Cupwinners Cup in Parma TERASVOGELS prevailed 3-2 in the championship game over SK JOUDRS PRAGUE from the Czech Republic. Aimee Murch (W 5-0) issued just two runs (1 ER) on six hits in a complete game to lead them to the win. They needed to score two runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win. Shannah van der Kaay tied the game with a RBI single. Lyanne Horeman followed with a RBI double. Both stepped to the plate as pinch hitters. Nathalie Gosewehr hit a solo homerun for the team from the Netherlands. JOUDRS had reached the finals with a thrilling 8-7 win in twelve innings over SPARKS HAARLEM earlier on Saturday.
