The catcher of the German national team and the Baseball-Bundesliga club HEIDENHEIM HEIDEKOEPFE Simon Guehring successfully had surgery on his fractured ankle on Monday. He got injured during a collision at the plate at the World Baseball Challenge in Prince George, Canada last month. The odds are against him that he can play in the IBAF Baseball World Cup in September. Guehring was batting .449 (OBP .495/SLG .708) with four homeruns, 22 runs scored and 16 RBI in 21 games for the HEIDEKOEPFE this season. The 25-year-old former Minor Leaguer missed some time due to a back injury earlier this year.
