On Monday the German Baseball-Bundesliga club Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg announced that six players will not return for the 2010 season. A local newspaper added a few more information. The American shortstop Matt Vance, who made his debut in Europe this summer, is expected to return for a second season. He is supposed to lead the team alongside former Minor Leaguers Ludwig Glaser and Rodney Gessmann. Vance batted .337 (OBP .478/SLG .517) with eleven extra base hits, 27 runs scored and 18 RBI in 24 games.
According to the report they also look to bring in a foreign pitcher to succeed the leaving Eddie Aucoin. Scott Lonergan, who helped out at the beginning of the season at the European Cup in Italy, is a possibility. The 26-year-old right-hander, a former Minor Leaguer in the Boston Red Sox organization, pitched for Long Beach of the Golden League in 2009, going 5-6 with an ERA of 5.94 and 47 strikeouts (22 walks) in 72 2/3 innings. Head coach Martin Helmig said in the article that they are also interested in two Czech players and a German pitcher.
