Rogier van Zon of Honkbalsite.com reports that first baseman/designated hitter Sharnol Adriana returns to the Dutch Hoofdklasse club DOOR NEPTUNUS. The 38-year-old was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 15th round of the 1991 amateur draft as a middle infielder and stayed in their organization until 1998. He moved on to the independent league circus and joined the Mexican League in 2000, where he played since.
After a short stint with NEPTUNUS in last year’s campaign, Adriana began 2009 again in Mexico and batted .262 (OBP .338/SLG .356) in 54 games for Minatitlan and Veracruz, before being released one month ago. He played in two Olympics for the Dutch National Team and served as the team’s DH in this year’s World Baseball Classic. He is scheduled to arrive in Rotterdam this week. NEPTUNUS is playing L&D AMSTERDAM in a three-game series starting Friday evening.
