Dutch right-handed pitcher Shairon Martis has found a new home in professional baseball. The 28-year-old, who also pitched for Team Europe in the exhibition series against Japan at the Tokyo Dome in March, has joined the Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League. Last year he played for the Uni-President 7-Eleven Lions in the Chinese Professional Baseball League in Taiwan. With the Washington Nationals and the Minnesota Twins Martis played in 26 games in Major League Baseball between 2008 and 2013. He is the fourth Dutch player in an independent league besides Curt Smith, Kalian Sams and Rodney Daal.
