Enorbel MARQUEZ-RAMIREZ and Sascha LUTZ led Germany to a 1-0 victory in the European duel with Spain. It is somewhat a surprise with the short preparation time the German team had.
Center fielder LUTZ delivered the lone run of the game with a solo-homerun, leading off the eighth frame.
MARQUEZ-RAMIREZ won the pitching duel against Yoel HERNANDEZ (L 0-1) with a five-hit complete game shutout, striking out three.
HERNANDEZ was charged with one run on six hits and three walks in 7 1/3 innings.
Neither team had much going offensive wise. Former minor leaguer Michael FRANKE had two hits for Germany, Ricardo RODRIGUEZ two for Spain. But only LUTZ found a way home.
Head coach George FRADY praised the performance as one of the best in German Baseball history. However they have to top it on Sunday against Chinese Taipei to have chance for a victory. Spain faces South Africa
