Sant Boi sweeps twin bill against El Llano

SANT BOI swept the two-game series against EL LLANO and moved into second place in the standings. The team from Gijon dropped from first into a tie for third.

Albert Vargas (W 4-1) led the Catalonian to a 7-1 victory on Saturday afternoon. He struck out eight in seven three-hit innings, while walking four. Jose Luis Riera, Marco Gonzalez and Ricardo Perez had three hits apiece. Eduardo Rivas drove in two. Fidel Mane (L 1-2) started for EL LLANO. He was charged with ten hits and six runs (4 ER) in five-plus innings.

The second game in the evening was similar. SANT BOI received a dominant performance from their starter and the offense scored enough runs for a 4-1 win. Jose Cruz (W 2-1), who again filled in for the injured Yoel Hernandez, allowed five hits, a run and four base on balls in a complete game. He punched out eight. Miguel Rizo (L 3-1) opposed him and took the first loss of the season. He gave up four hits, two runs and a walk in 4 2/3 innings. Eduardo Rivas scored two runs and drove in a run for the home team.

The FC BARCELONA moved into first place after winning both games against the local rivals from VILADECANS. However they had to fight to be victorious.

The first match was decided through a RBI-single by Emmanuel Isasi in the top of the first extra-inning. Before that the starters Homer Baez (FCB) and Yulman Ribeiro (VIL) were locked into a pitchers duel. Baez struck out eleven in 8 2/3 innings. He gave up four hits, a run and six bb. Ribeiro was not far behind. He was responsible for six hits, a run and four walks in eight frames. Andoni Ortiz (W 1-0) received the win. Alberto Magallon took the loss.

In the second game on Sunday, BARCA overcame a 0-2 deficit after three innings, by scoring three runs in the fourth. They added five insurance runs in the ninth to finalize the score at 8-2. Jorge Miqueleiz was 2-for-4 with a double, a run and three RBI. Miguel Mora scored twice and drove in two. Remigio Leal (W 3-1) allowed two runs (1 ER) on five hits in eight innings, striking out five. Pol Llopis (L 0-2) gave up five hits, three runs (1 ER) and two walks in seven.

San Inazio Bilbao - CD Pamplona 4-3, 1-2

This was a split, which helped neither SAN INAZIO nor PAMPLONA. CD is now three games behind fourth in the standings. BILBAO is stuck in seventh.

The Basque squad scored three runs in the bottom of the third to overcome a 1-3 deficit and to win game one. Juan Manuel Nieves drove in two. Asier Izaguirre scored twice. Erick Arteaga (W 2-1) allowed three unearned runs on four hits in a complete game victory. Alexis Fumero started for PAMPLONA. He walked seven and gave up a run on four hits in five innings. Patrice Briones (L 0-1) replaced him and took the loss.

In the second game PAMPLONA needed just two hits to earn a 2-1 win. However the batters received help from a terrible BILBAO defense, which committed seven errors, including two, which led directly to the deciding runs in the top of the fifth. Juan Manuel Nieves cut the deficit with a solo homerun in the eighth. It was the only mistake Alberto Casanellas (W 3-1) would make in the complete game. He allowed five hits, one run and three walks in nine innings. Pedro Belmonte (L 0-2) struck out eleven in nine innings. He gave up just two hits, two unearned runs and a bb.

Marlins Puerto Cruz - Astros Valencia 18-0, 12-1

The MARLINS started not well into the new season and led the promoted and winless ASTROS feel it. They scored 30 runs in the twin bill and moved their record to 7-3.

Richard Montiel had three hits, three runs and six RBI in the first pounding. He and Riccardo Rodriguez hit homeruns. Dewis Navarro went 4-for-4 with three runs and three RBI. Jose Luis Salazar drove in four. Renny Duarte (W 1-1) struck out seven in five two-hit innings. Luis Galicia (L 0-1) was charged with five hits, seven runs and four walks in 2 1/3 innings.

The second match was similar with PUERTO CRUZ scoring twelve runs on 13 hits. Dewis Navarro drove the ball out of the ballpark and scored three times. Richard Montiel hit two doubles and triple for three runs and two RBI. Riccardo Rodriguez got four RBI. Ivan Granados (W 3-1) pitched five innings for the win. He surrendered five hits, a run and a walk, striking out five. Edgar Aineto (L 0-3) was responsible for seven hits and nine runs (8 ER) in three innings.
