T&A San Marino continues to strengthen its team for the 2011 season in the Italian Baseball League. On Thursday Baseball.it reported that they are bringing back Wuillians Vasquez, who played a key role in winning the championship in 2008 and reaching the Italian Series one year later. Before that the 27-year-old already played for Avigliana in the IBL. The Venezuelan had also played in the minor leagues in the New York Yankees organization between 2000 and 2004. In 2010 Vasquez was on the team of Mr. Cocker HCAW in the Dutch Hoofdklasse.
Additionally the Titans are adding the Staten Island native Pete Avvento to the bullpen. The 21-year-old southpaw came to Italy last winter and took the mound for Rebecchi Piacenza in the Federal Serie A this summer. He had a 5-1 record with an ERA of 2.25 in 16 appearances, eight of them starts. He struck out 53 batters in 56 innings, while walking 17.
