Robin Roy is back. The ROUEN legend comes out of retirement and returns to his former club. The HUSKIES announced the comeback of the right-handed pitcher on Monday evening in a press release. Roy was born 1969 in Montreal, Canada and came to ROUEN in 1991. He helped the club twice to reach the French Elite League and won three championships in France in 2003 (Finals MVP), 2005 (as manager) and 2006 (Finals MVP). He was named best pitcher in Europe in 1999 and won the best pitcher award in France in 2003. He retired following the 2006 season.
In August 2007 he was diagnosed with testicular cancer, went through surgery and chemotherapy to survive. In January last year Roy was healthy and back at his job, but didn’t thought about baseball. At the end of last season he accompanied the team on a trip to LA GUERCHE and saw that the passion for the sport was still there. He started working out in October for himself and got in shape. After long tossing a few times with HUSKIES’ Keino Perez, he decided to give it another try. He hopes to lead ROUEN to the European Champions Cup in Barcelona, Spain, as this is the one thing, what is missing in his career accomplishments.
