According to an article in Friday’s newspaper AD/Rotterdams Dagblad Curacao Neptunus Rotterdam first baseman Rien Vernooij was successful in his hearing in front of the KNBSB Appeal Commission on Tuesday this week.
According to the report his suspension got reduced from previously one year (until July 1, 2017) to 23 games in the Dutch Hoofdklasse. With that verdict Vernooij is going to be eligible to return to the field for game one of the playoffs. He also will be under probation for 27 additional games after his suspension has ended.
Vernooij, who is a former minor league player, had been suspended for his actions during a bench clearing brawl between Curacao Neptunus Rotterdam and L&D Amsterdam at the end of May.
