Rick Van den Hurk strikes out 9 against Braves

Rick van den Hurk struck out nine batters over six solid innings in his third start of the season for the Florida Marlins on Thursday. The tall right-hander allowed four hits, two runs and an intentional base on balls, while throwing 69 of his 95 pitches for strikes. He left the game trailing 1-2, Atlanta added another run, but his offense evened the score in the eighth, getting him a no decision. The Braves eventually prevailed anyway, as Brian McCann homered in the top of the tenth for a 6-3 win. Van den Hurk is 1-0 with an ERA of 2.65 and 16 strikeouts (6 walks) in 17 innings.
