Dutch right-hander Rick van den Hurk returns to the Dutch national team for the 2017 World Baseball Classic. The 31-year-old last played for the Netherlands during the 2009 World Baseball Classic. The Eindhoven native had been playing ten seasons for MLB organizations between 2003 and 2012, which included six stints in the big leagues with the Florida Marlins, Baltimore Orioles and Pittsburgh Pirates. The past four years he has been in Asia, playing two years for the Samsung Lions in South Korea and now two also for Softbank Hawks in Japan. Through all leagues combined he has an overall ERA of 3.88 during his professional baseball career. The Netherlands are placed into the Seoul, South Korea group during the first round of the WBC, which also includes Korea, Chinese Taipei and Israel.
