Rick van den Hurk goes 7 Innings in Puerto Rican Winter League

The Dutch right-hander of the Florida Marlins, Rick van den Hurk, made his third start in the Puerto Rican Winter League on Sunday for Gigantes de Carolina. He went seven innings against Gigantes del Cibao. He allowed just two runs on five hits, one on a solo homerun by Detroit Tigers infielder Ramon Santiago.  He struck out five. Van den Hurk left game with the score tied 2-2. Cibao put two runs on the board in the top of the eighth and won 4-2 in the end, leaving the Eindhoven-native with another no-decision. He is 0-0 with an ERA of 2.50 in three starts in Puerto Rico, striking out 13 in 18 innings, while walking just one.

Free agent outfielder Andruw Jones has found a new club. The 32-year-old from Willemstad, Curacao, who played for the Netherlands in the 2006 World Baseball Classic, signed a one-year contract with the Chicago White Sox. He probably will have a similar role as backup outfielder, which also had with the Texas Rangers in the 2009 season. He batted .214 (OBP .323/SLG .459) with 17 homeruns and 43 RBI in 82 games for the club from Arlington, Texas.
