The Italian Softball League opened play this past weekend. In Group A AB Caronno celebrated a pair of shutouts over Saronno. Pitchers Karla Claudio and Giulia Bollini combined to keep Saronno to three hits combined in 12 innings of play. Additionally Sardegna defeated Taurus Old Parma twice with Jolene Henderson striking out 12 in game one of the twin bill.
In Group B Labadini Collecchio split against Sestese. Game one went to Sestese by a score of 8-3. In game two Kylee Studioso and Monica Perry were stuck in a thrilling pitcher’s duel. Nicole Zerbini scored the lone run of the game due to a throwing error in the bottom of the eighth inning. Perry took the loss, surrendering just one hit, an unearned run and an intentional walk in seven otherwise flawless innings. She struck out 17. Studioso picked up the win with a perfect eight-inning game. She collected 12 Ks.
Bussolengo and Fiorini split a doubleheader. Both ended with shutouts. In game one Bussolengo won 11-0 in seven frames, scoring all 11 runs after the third. Aimee Creger matched Perry’s 17 strikeouts in seven scoreless one-hit innings. In game two Ilaria Cacciamani and Matilde Zanotti combined to concede just two hits and two walks in seven scoreless innings in a 1-0 Forli win.
In the third matchup of Group B on Sunday, the Blue Girls Bologna won 6-0 and 6-5 over the Metalco Thunders.
