On Saturday the quarterfinals in the German Baseball-Bundesliga started. After these eight games, four teams need just one more win to advance into the semis. Northern champion ALLIGATORS scored twelve runs apiece to win 12-4 and 12-3 in MAINZ. The HEIDEKOEPFE celebrated 7-1 and 12-0 wins in DORTMUND. In game two Dusty Bergman nearly pitchte a no-hitter, but Trevor Howell singled with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to deny the bid.
The BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE started with an easy 11-1 victory in Hamburg against the STEALERS. In the second match Brehan Murphy tied the game for the HSV in the bottom of the ninth and moved to third with two outs. But in the end REGENSBURG prevailed 7-3 in ten innings to take the expected 2-0 lead in the best-of-five series.
The fourth matchup on Saturday went place at the Roberto Clemente Field in Mannheim, where the TORNADOS won both games against the UNTOUCHABLES. Game one was quite eventful, as first heavy rain led to a three-hour delay. Later on PADERBORN erased a 2-9 deficit in the top of the ninth, highlighted by a game-tying two-out grand slam by Michael Franke. However Craig Pycock saved MANNHEIM with a walk-off RBI double in the bottom of the ninth in a 10-9 win. In the second match Marvin Appiah hit a three-run homerun to lead the TORNADOS to an 8-0 shutout.
