The German Baseball-Bundesliga opened the 2012 season this weekend in mostly chilly weather conditions, but with thrilling games. Defending champion Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg started with a split. Following Friday’s night win over the Mainz Athletics they lost game two on Saturday. Last year’s north champion Untouchables Paderborn also couldn’t celebrate a sweep, losing game two against the HSV Stealers despite a 4-0 lead early in the contest. Cologne, Berlin are leading the standings in the north. Haar (after a pair of ten-inning walk-off wins) and Heidenheim are in first place in the south.
