One week before their showdown with the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe the Buchbinder Legionaere suffered their second loss of the season, having to settle for a split against the Mainz Athletics. On Friday Boris Bokaj had led Regensburg to a 10-0 shutout, improving to 9-0 for the season. One day later it was Pat Haugen who impressed in his debut with ten strikeouts in nine innigns for the A’s leading Mainz to a surprise 7-4 victory.
On Sunday the Gauting Indians lost ground in the playoff race with a pair of one-run losses in Heidenheim. In game one the Heidekoepfe scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to win 2-1. Afterwards they blew an early 4-0 lead, but won it 5-4 anyway thanks to a bases loaded walk by Martin Dewald in the eighth. Meanwhile the Haar Disciples out-scored the Neuenburg Atomics 35-3 in a sweep to solidify third place in the standings. Additionally the Mannheim Tornados had to settle for a split against the Saarlouis Hornets, as Tom Fiebig pitched a shutout for the guests in game two.
In the north the Paderborn Untouchables swept their twin bill at the promoted Dohren Wild Farmers highlighted by homeruns of Daniel Meier and Michael Franke. Meier also pitched seven strong innings in a shutout in game two. The Dortmund Wanderers also celebrated a shutout in game two in their split with the Bonn Capitals thanks to another strong start by Matt Kemp. Dortmund hasn’t lost a game two since May 1st. They are now percentage points ahead of the HSV Stealers in fourth place.
