The German Baseball-Bundesliga started last weekend with its first game day into the 2015 season. Two dramatic extra-inning games highlighted the schedule. On Saturday evening the Mainz Athletics kicked off the 2015 campaign with a five-hour, 14-inning 10-9 thriller against the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe thanks to an error shortly after midnight. On Monday the Stuttgart Reds prevailed 17-15 against the Haar Disciples, erasing a 12-15 deficit in the process. Troy Weinert hit a three-run walk-off home run.
Meanwhile the favorites cruised to easy wins. The Solingen Alligators swept the Dortmund Wanderers even though Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez didn’t have a stellar return to German Baseball. The Bonn Capitals had Sascha Koch and Wilson Lee dominating on the mound to guide the Caps to a pair of 10-0 shutouts. The Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg scored 28 runs in two blowouts against the Bad Homburg Hornets.
