The German Baseball-Bundesliga continued with the third game day of the 2011 season this weekend. In the north Matt Kemp and Trevor Howell ended the winning streak of the Pulheim Gophers in game two of the doubleheader on Saturday. Kemp struck out 21 batters, while Howell hit a tie-breaking homerun in the eighth. The Dortmund Wanderers had lost the first game. Also the HSV Stealers and the Bonn Capitals split wins on Saturday. On Sunday the Untouchables Paderborn and the Solingen Alligators celebrated sweeps. The Alligators won in walk-off style in the ninth.
In the southern division the Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg again stumbled in the Friday night game, losing game one of a two-game series to the Mainz Athletics. The A’s scored the decisive runs in the top of the ninth. On Saturday Regensburg came back to win it on a walk-off single by Chris Howard in the ninth. In other matchups the Mannheim Tornados and the Haar Disciples settled for a split and the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe swept their season debut against the Gauting Indians.
