In the German Baseball-Bundesliga the second part of the regular season started this weekend. In the northern division the Solingen Alligators swept the Bonn Capitals to defend first place. Solingen scored four runs in the first four innings en route to a 6-3 win in game one. In the second Chris Mezger out-dueled Trevor Caughey and the Alligators added three runs in the ninth for a 3-0 shutout.
In the south the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe crushed the Stuttgart Reds in both ends of a twin bill. Meanwhile the previously winless Tubingen Hawks and Bad Homburg Hornets reached victory lane. The Hawks upset the Mainz Athletics 2-0 in 14 innings. Benjamin Burkhart threw four scoreless innings in relief and drove in the winning run with a double. The Hornets blew a lead in the ninth and prevailed 8-7 after ten innings, out-scoring the Mannheim Tornados 4-3 in the first extra frame.
