The Dutch Hoofdklasse opened the 2015 season. It was an interesting start into the new campaign. HCAW Bussum and UVV provided a pair of upsets against the big four. UVV shut out L&D Amsterdam 2-0 in the completion of game one on Saturday. Jurjen van Zijl and Jim Ploeger combined to keep Amsterdam to four hits, defeating Pirates ace Rob Cordemans and former prospect Tom de Blok. The game had to be suspended on Thursday due to a lights outage and continued prior to game two on Saturday. Amsterdam won 5-0 and 8-1 in the other two games.
HCAW prevailed 4-3 in game two of their series against Curacao Neptunus. They overcame an early 0-2 deficit and scored the eventual game winner in the fourth frame. Roy Seltenrijch went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles for the team from Bussum. Gijs van Els pitched 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief. Belgian National Team struck out eight in 4 2/3 innings of no-hit relief in his Neptunus debut. Rotterdam won games one and three 12-2 and 14-2 demonstrating their offensive power.
The Vaessen Pioniers showed off a deep pitching staff, striking out the Mampaey The Hawks in all three games this weekend. Starters Ricardo Hernandez, Elton Koeiman and Lars Huijer issued three hits each in five respective six innings. Corendon Kinheim welcomes neighbor DSS with a three-game sweep into the Hoofdklasse.
