At the Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games 2,787 years ago (776 B.C.) the weekend of 16th and 17th of October, 30 children gathered to play for the first time (after a long period) to an organized baseball tournament in Greece/Hellas. Children played before baseball at 2002, at the one and only attempt from the baseball federation, before they gave all their interest only to the men championships.
This meeting and these games where not ordinary, they where the District Finals for Little League in Greece/Hellas. A three year work come true for – at last – teaching the fundamentals of the game to the appropriate age and rooting the baseball development. Six teams where invited and three offered their presence to compete for the cups and prices, to have fun, to meet and make friends and to enjoy the excellent weather in our country.
The Lords from Patras, the Pirates from Attica and the Acros from West Athens where the teams and every team, played the other two, twice. The results follows:
1. PIRATES – LORDS 3 – 17
2. PIRATES – ACROS 13 -15
3. ACROS – LORDS 0 – 17
4. LORDS – ACROS 10 – 2
5. ACROS – PIRATES 8 – 7
6. LORDS – PIRATES 6 – 0
The results gave the first place to the Lords, the second to the Acros and the third to the Pirates. All teams arose to the sky their baseball cups plus three special awards that where given to three children of excellence, the best defender, pitcher and batter:
1. Best Defender Menexis Giorgos (ACROS)
2. Best Batter Gurinder Saini (LORDS)
3. Best Pitcher Markellos Dimitris (LORDS)
All children received their honorary diploma and along with the volunteers enjoyed the hod dog party with sodas and juices.
