The Vienna Wanderers remain in first place in the Austrian Baseball League after splitting against the Athletics Attnang-Puchheim this weekend. In game one Walter Strasser dominated through eight innings to lead the A’s to a 6-5 win. The Wanderers scored four runs and put runners on second and third in the ninth, but had to settle for the loss. In game two Johannes Godler and Christian Tomsich combined to pitch Vienna to a 7-3 win.
The Vienna Metrostars crushed the Rohrbach Crazy Geese in both games, out-scoring them 30-5 in the doubleheader. It was the first sweep for the Mets this season. The Schwaz Tigers also won twice this weekend. In game one against the Union Kufstein Vikings, Matthias Vogler hit a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the tenth to lead Schwaz to a 5-4 win. In the second match the Tigers scored seven runs in the fourth en route to a 12-2 victory.
Additionally the Stock City Cubs and the Schwechat Blue Bats split their two-game set. In game one Schwechat erased a deficit and celebrated a 9-7 comeback win, which was highlighted by a Phillip Brenner homerun. In the second match Reed Brown sat down 19 batters with strikeouts in a 6-5 win for the Stock City Cubs.
