Week four in the Australian Baseball League was concluded with five combined games this weekend. On Saturday Adelaide and Sydney split a doubleheader. The Blue Sox celebrated a 5-0 shutout. Aiden Francis (8 IP) and Dae-Sung Koo allowed just three hits in nine innings to lead the way. Tyler Collins and Alex Johnson went deep. Paul Mildren took the loss. The Bite won the other game by a score of 4-2. Calvin Anderson and Ben Wigmore hit homeruns.
Also on Saturday the Melbourne Aces won a 12-inning thriller against the Canberra Cavalry. Two runs in the top of the 12th were enough for Melbourne to prevail 7-6. The Aces had forced extra innings in the ninth. Brad Harman went deep for the guests, Ty Morrison for the home team. Both teams combined to use 14 pitchers in the game.
On Sunday Melbourne and Canberra were back on the field, splitting a doubleheader. Melbourne scored seven runs in the sixth inning to win a seven-inning slugfest 14-8. All ten position players used in the game for the Aces collected at least one hit. Scott Wearne drove in five. Kody Hightower hit a two-run homerun for the Cavalry. Jason Hirsh got the win.
Canberra prevailed 4-1 in the nine-inning affair of the twin bill. Hayden Beard (W, 1-1) went seven innings, allowing two hits and two walks, while striking out seven. Todd Glaesman continued his hot hitting with two hits, a double, a run and a RBI.
