Week eight of the 2011/2012 season in the Australian Baseball League ended on Sunday morning with three and a half games. The Melbourne Aces opened the day with a 5-4 11-inning win over the Adelaide Bite in a completion of Saturday’s suspended contest. Paul Weichard drove in the game winner with a single against million dollar arm winner Rinku Singh of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The teams met for another game in the second part of the afternoon with Melbourne using a pair of big rallies to dispatch Adelaide 13-3. Weichard, Josh Davies and John Edwards (grand slam) hit homeruns and combined for nine RBI. Dushan Ruzic issued eight runs on eight hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings to take the loss.

Meanwhile the Canberra Cavalry continued to be on the upswing, defeating the Sydney Blue Sox 5-2 for their sixth straight victory. Three runs in the first and two in fifth were all they needed to prevail. Patrick Maat hit another homerun in the losing effort. Hayden Beard pitched six solid innings for the win.

Leader Perth Heat shut out the Brisbane Bandits 9-0 to conclude the game day in Australia. Matt Zachary, Cameron Lamb and Benn Grice combined to hold Brisbane to seven hits and two walks.
