Five games were on the schedule on Friday, as week five in the Australian Baseball League continued. Alex Maestri pitched six solid innings in the most thrilling game. His Brisbane Bandits lost 3-4 in 15 innings against the Sydney Blue Sox. Boss Moanaroa drove in the game winner with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of the sixth extra innings. In game two of the twin bill the Bandits prevailed 6-4, erasing a 1-4 deficit in the process.
In the other games on the day Denny Almonte homered twice, including a walk-off homerun in the ninth, to lead the Adelaide Bite to a 9-6 win over the Melbourne Aces. In the second match Melbourne used a homerun by Jarryd Rogers and 5 2/3 strong innings by Jason Hirsh to earn the split in the doubleheader. The leading Perth Heat suffered their first loss of the season, getting shut out 0-7 by the Canberra Cavalry. Mike McGuire and Brian Grening combined in the five-hitter.
