Week seven in the Australian Baseball League continued on Friday with three games. In the probably most thrilling affair, the Sydney Blue Sox celebrated a 3-2 walk-off win over the Canberra Cavalry. A two-out bases loaded walk by Tyler Collins in the bottom of the eleventh inning decided the outcome. A walk already had loaded the bases one batter earlier. Sydney had erased a 0-2 deficit on a sac fly and a groundout in the bottom of the ninth.
Italy’s Alex Maestri was back on the mound for the Brisbane Bandits. He didn’t have a good outing, allowing six hits, five runs and a walk in six innings to take his second loss of the season. The Bandits lost 5-6 to the Adelaide Bite, which had Paul Mildren and Wayne Ough on the mound. Mathew Smith and Denny Almonte took Maestri deep.
The Perth Heat and the Melbourne Aces entered the competition on Friday. The Heat won 6-2, mainly thanks to a five-run rally in the fourth. Mathew Kennelly connected for a grand slam to do most of the damage. Daniel Schmidt pitched seven solid innings for the win. Yusei Kikuchi took the loss.
