In the Australian Baseball League week five started with two games on Thursday. The Melbourne Aces shut out the Adelaide Bite 4-0. Justin Huber and Josh Davies hit homeruns to provide the run support for Yusei Kikuchi and two relievers, which combined to allow just four hits and a walk in nine innings on the mound. Kikuchi struck out eight in six two-hit innings for the win. Dushan Ruzic paid for two mistakes with the loss, allowing five hits, four runs and a base on balls in five-plus innings.
The second matchup on the day between the Sydney Blue Sox and the Brisbane Bandits got suspended in the second inning with Brisbane leading 1-0. Electrical failure led to a problem with the lightning and both teams will be back on the field on Friday morning.
