Unipol Bologna has won the opening game in the Italian Baseball League. They defeated defending champion Cariparma Parma in a rematch of last year’s Italian Series on Thursday by a score of 2-1. 309 people were in the stands for the night game.
Livinston Santaniello broke a 1-1 tie in the sixth inning to cross the plate for the decisive run of the match. He had reached with a leadoff triple and scored thanks to a sac fly by Gabriele Ermini. Otherwise pitching dominated the contest.
Jesus Matos (W 1-0) got the win, allowing just one run on six hits and three walks in six innings. He struck out six. Victor Moreno (S 1) closed it out for the save. Jesus Silva (L 0-1) issued just two hits, two runs (1 ER) and three bb in 5 1/3 innings in his IBL debut.
