Therwil Flyers – Lucerne Eagles 9-0, 13-1
by JB Tucker, Therwil Flyers
Game One Game one between the Lucerne Eagles and the Therwil Flyers was a much closer game than most had anticipated. The Eagles’ pitching was able to keep the Flyers offense off balance for most of the game. The Flyers were able to push one run across in the first inning with a RBI single by Daniel Eichenberger. Fortunately for the Flyers offense, the Flyers pitchers came ready to play. Starting pitcher, Stefan Koller, held the Eagles to zero and one hit over four sharp innings.
Following Koller was reliever Lukas Croton who pitched 3 innings of scoreless relief, giving up only one hit as well. And sealing the game in the 8th and 9th innings were Taka Oshima and Adrian Kaufmann who closed the door without giving up any runs. The Flyers offensively were able to take advantage of several Eagles errors, particularly late in the game and push across 9 run on 6 hits. Hitting standouts for game one were Daniel Eichenberger who was 3-4, coming up a home run short of the cycle, and Hide Oshima who was 1-2 with 3 walks and a double. Final score was 9-0 in favor of the Flyers.
Game Two Game two in the Sunday doubleheader got off to a rough start for the home team Flyers. After falling behind, 1-0 in the second inning, courtesy of back to back hits followed by consecutive walks, the Flyers were able to tie it up in the bottom of the third. With the score tied at 1, the Flyers offense finally came alive. The Flyers put together a tremendous 5th inning, scoring 7 runs on 8 hits. It was a complete team effort in the fifth, getting hits from both the top and bottom of the lineup.
In the top of the sixth with runners in scoring position and only one out, the Flyers middle infielders, Taka Oshima and Adrian Kaufmann turned a tremendous double play to end the threat. Flyers pitcher Hide Oshima came into the game in the 9th inning and struck out the side to put an exclamation point on the solid Flyers pitching and defense that dominated this game day. Hitting standouts for the Flyers were Hide and Taka Oshima. Hide went 2-4 with two doubles and his older brother Taka went 3-5 with a double. Final score of the game was 13-1 in favor of the Flyers.
