Recaps: Sundbyberg Heat gets closer to the top

Leksand Lumberjacks – Stockholm 0-3, 2-1 (6)

After LEKSAND beat leader TRANAS last week in one of the two games, this Saturday the sixth-ranked team was able to hold down STOCKHOLM 2-1 in a rain-shortened affair in game two of the doubleheader. In game one last year’s champion celebrated a 3-0 shutout.

Rättvik Butchers – Sundbyberg Heat 5-12, 3-7 (6)

The HEAT moved closer to the top of the standings, sweeping the twin bill on the road against the BUTCHERS. In game one they broke a 3-3 tie with a four-run rally in the sixth and added five more runs in the ninth in a 12-5 win. Will Rikard and Philip Gajzler hit homeruns. Joshua Gregory scored twice and drove in two. Grant Irving (W 5-2) allowed six hits, two runs and three walks in 5 2/3 innings to pick up the win in relief. Peter Jansson (L 2-6) surrendered 14 hits, twelve runs (8 ER) and five bb in nine innings.

In the second match SUNDBYBERG scored five runs in the top of the sixth en route to a 7-3 win, which was called midway thru the sixth due to rain. Ricardo Martinez and Per Lindgren drove in two runs each. Carl Sjölin (W 4-1) pitched five-plus innings, giving up ten hits, three runs (1 ER) and a walk. Nicklas Melin (L 2-4) conceded eight hits, seven runs (6 ER) and five bb in six innings.

Karlskoga Bats – Tranas 6-3, 6-11

In a meeting between the teams in fourth and first KARLSKOGA and TRANAS had to settle for a split. In game one the BATS jumped out to an early 3-0 lead after four innings en route to a 6-3 win. Shortstop Heath Herron scored four of the six runs. Ronny Frid (W 4-1) allowed five hits, two runs and four bb in 5 2/3 innings. Eimantes Zickus (L 7-1) issued 13 hits, six runs (4 ER) and a walk in eight innings. He struck out eight.

In the second match it was the TRANAS offense, which started fast, putting eight runs on the board in the first three innings in an 11-6 victory. David Leander homered for TRANAS. Cameron Penney went three-for-five with four RBI. Henrik Johansson and Herron went deep for KARLSKOGA. Penney (W 5-0) also picked up the win on the mound with eight hits and four runs allowed in six innings. Michael Andersson (L 0-3) lasted just 1 1/3 innings, conceding two hits, three runs and three bb.
