North

HSV Stealers – Cologne Cardinals 5-4, 3-2

The STEALERS clinched the fourth playoff berth in the northern division of the Baseball-Bundesliga in Germany with a sweep over the fifth-ranked CARDINALS. COLOGNE led in game one 4-1 until the bottom of the ninth, when Brehan Murphy tied the contest with a two-run single and Marcel de Vos won it 5-4 with a walk-off RBI single. In the second match Kody Hightower allowed just two runs on seven hits and collected two RBI as the HSV won 3-2. Markus Stryczek drove in both runs of COLOGNE.

Dortmund Wanderers – Bonn Capitals 12-1 (7), 6-5

The WANDERERS won both ends of a day-night doubleheader against the CAPITALS and finish the regular season in the Baseball-Bundesliga as the number three seed in the north. In game one they scored eight runs between the fifth and sixth to blew it wide open en route to a 12-1 victory in seven innings. In the second match BONN overcame an early 0-5 deficit, but lost 5-6 anyway, as Alexander Nassapov drove in Rene Herlitzius with a groundball to second in the bottom of the ninth.

Paderborn Untouchables – Solingen Alligators 5-3, 12-3

The UNTOUCHABLES stunned the ALLIGATORS by winning both games against the leading team in the northern standings. In game one hits by Oliver Neisemeier, Daniel Brockmeyer and Jendrick Speer plated two runs in the seventh in a 5-3 victory. Eugen Heilmann won the duel against Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez, who suffered the first regular season loss since 2007. In the second match PADERBORN used a six-run fifth, which was highlighted by a three-run double by Michael Franke, to beat SOLINGEN 12-3. The U’s trail now by 1.5 games in the standings, but have won the season series 3-1.

South

Heidenheim Heidekoepfe – Mannheim Tornados 2-3, 5-3

The TORNADOS concluded the regular season in the southern division of the Baseball-Bundesliga with a split in HEIDENHEIM and will most likely go into the playoffs as the number three seed, though the HEIDEKOEPFE have to win at least one of their last four games to secure the second spot definitely. Rene Franke pitched six strong innings in game one to lead MANNHEIM to a 3-2 win. In the second match HEIDENHEIM was able to erase a 0-3 deficit en route to a 5-3 victory.

Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg – Gauting Indians 7-6 (10), 6-3

The BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE prevailed in both games of their two-game series against the INDIANS, but they had to work hard for the sweep and the first seed in the south. In the first game on Friday evening GAUTING led 6-3 going into the ninth inning, when Chris Howard and Daniel Husband tied the contest with back-to-back homeruns. In the tenth they won it on a walk off RBI single by Alex Lauterbach. On Saturday afternoon REGENSBURG again had to overcome deficits in a 6-3 win. Husband again hit a homerun.

Mainz Athletics – Saarlouis Hornets 8-7 (10), 6-2

The ATHLETICS made a big step towards the playoffs by sweeping the HORNETS at home and to move back into fourth place in the standings. They now only have to hope that they a) win one of two games against HEIDENHEIM on June 27th or that HAAR and GAUTING not sweep REGENSBURG and the HEIDEKOEPFE in their regular season finals. SAARLOUIS is already out of the race for the playoffs. In game one each team overcame deficits and the HORNETS forced extra innings by tying the contest in the ninth. But the A’s had the better ending, winning it on a walk off hit in the tenth. In the second match Nils Hartkopf dominated with nine strikeouts in seven two-hit innings to lead MAINZ to a 6-2 win. Max Boldt hit two homeruns on the day and finished with six RBI and the win in relief in the first match.
