A RBI single by Francesco Imperiali and a sac fly by Riccardo Suardi in the top of the ninth lifted San Marino to a 3-1 victory in game two of their three-game series in Parma. Cariparma had taken an early 1-0 lead in the opening frame, when Juan Camilo drove in Leonardo Zileri with a triple. But T&A came right back and evened the score in the third on a RBI double by Carlos Duran. Tiago da Silva (SMA) allowed six hits, a run and two walks in six innings. Mihai Burlea (PAR) issued just two hits, a run and four bb in six innings too. Mattia Salsi (W 1-0) received the win in relief. Justin Cicatello (L 0-1) took the loss.

Parma avoided a sweep in the opening week with a 5-3 win in the night cap of Saturday’s doubleheader. Stefano de Simoni reached base four times and scored twice to lead the home offense. San Marino’s Ardley Jansen made things interesting in the top of the eighth with a two-run homerun. But it was too little, too late. Gregory Palanzo (L 0-1) gave up seven hits, three runs and three bb in 4 2/3 innings. Roberto Corradini (W 1-0) surrendered one run on six hits and three walks in seven innings.
Montepaschi Grosseto – Telemarket Rimini 4-8, 1-0

We reported plenty about the contract situation of Enorbel Marquez-Ramirez (W 1-0) over the past three months. He was cleared to play at the beginning of the week and didn’t waste any time to pick up his first Italian Baseball League victory in his first start for Rimini. The German national team southpaw wasn’t as sharp as usual, allowing eight hits, three runs and three bb in six innings. But the Telemarket offense bailed him out and sealed an 8-4 win in Grosseto in the end. Danny Gonzalez and Mario Chiarini crossed the plate twice. Lorenzo Avagnina drove in two. Gabriele Ermini hit a solo homerun for Montepaschi. Chris Cooper (L 0-1) gave up nine hits, six runs and four walks in 4 2/3 innings.

The night game of the twin bill between Grosseto and Rimini was a nail-biting pitcher’s duel. Each team managed just four hits in the contest with the decisive run crossing the plate in the bottom of the ninth on a two-out walk-off RBI triple by Luca Bischeri. Sandy Patrone (RIM) gave up two hits and two walks in six scoreless innings for the Pirates. Orioles’ starter Riccardo de Santis (GRO) held the zeros for seven innings, conceding two hits and five free passes. Lino Luciani (W 1-0) picked up the win, Mauro Schiavoni (L 0-1) the loss.
