Haar Disciples – Mainz Athletics 0-13 (8), 3-2
In the lone split in the German Baseball-Bundesliga this weekend, the Mainz Athletics and the Haar Disciples shared wins on Saturday. In game one Jan-Niclas Stoecklin dominated to lead the A’s to a 13-0 win in eight innings. He allowed just a one-out single to Mitch Stephan in the bottom of the seventh en route to a one-hit complete game shutout. No runner of the Disciples reached second base in the game. Six runs in the first had provided him with the necessary run support. In the second game Haar won it 3-2 thanks to a wild pitch by Christian Decher in the bottom of the ninth. A two-out RBI infield single by Mitch Stephan had tied the contest in the eighth. All four Mainz losses this season has been decided through the last at-bat in the game.
Gauting Indians – Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg 0-6, 9-14
The Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg celebrated a sweep against the Gauting Indians on Sunday, solidifying first place in the southern standings. In game one Mike Bolsenbroek and Philipp Hoffschild combined to hold Gauting to six hits in a 6-0 shutout. Bolsenbroek struck out eleven in seven innings. They out-dueled John Dobkowski, who held Regensburg to two earned runs in seven frames. Evan LeBlanc hit his first homerun for the Legionaere this season. In the second match the reigning German champion prevailed 14-9 after a wild slugfest. Gauting started the scoring with seven runs in the second. But Regensburg answered with nine in the third. Four runs in the ninth sealed the deal after the Indians had cut the deficit to 9-10 in the eighth. Matt Vance went 5-for-6 with a pair of doubles and four RBI. Gauting’s Travis Latz was 3-for-4 with a homerun and four RBI.
Heidenheim Heidekoepfe – Bad Homburg 7-0, 9-2
The Heidenheim Heidekoepfe ended their mini slump with a pair of easy wins over the Bad Homburg Hornets. In game one Aljosha Schattmann allowed just seven hits and a walk in nine scoreless innings to lead Heidenheim to a 7-0 shutout. Four runs in the sixth highlighted by a two-run single by David Fuesser blew things wide open. Andrew Smith sealed the win with a two-run homerun in the eighth. Peter Ackerman took the loss. In the second game the Heidekoepfe scored four runs in the fourth and three in the eighth en route to a 9-2 win. Andrew Smith scored twice and drove in three. Dusty Bergman pitched five solid innings for the win. Peter Wiggins was charged with the loss.
