Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg – Saarlouis Hornets 7-1 (5), 10-2
The Buchbinder Legionaere defended their clean slate in the southern division of the Baseball-Bundesliga with a sweep over the Hornets. On Friday night Regensburg scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth en route to a rain-shortened five-inning 7-1 win. Boris Bokaj allowed just two hits, a run and three walks in five innings to win the Czech duel on the mound against Ales Keprta, who issued six hits, seven runs and two bb.
On Saturday afternoon, both managers relied on different starters as usual. Rene Herlitzius got the nod for the Buchbinder Legionaere and Peter Ackermann for Saarlouis. The outcome was the same. Regensburg scored four fast runs in the opening period and never looked back on its way to a 10-2 win. Usual starters Chris Paterson (REG) and Tom Fiebig (SLS) came in later.
Mannheim Tornados – Neuenburg Atomics 12-2 (7), 11-2
The Tornados extended their winning streak to five games after sweeping the doubleheader against the Atomics. They also moved into fourth place in the southern division standings. On the mound Rene Franke and Cory Stevens went the distance in both games and picked up the wins. Janos Daroczi and Alex Aucoin were charged with the losses.
Gauting Indians – Mainz Athletics 6-0
On Sunday morning the doubleheader between the Indians and the Athletics first got postponed, but since Mainz was already in town and the weather improved, both teams began game one with an hour delay in the afternoon. Dominik Hartinger got the starting nod over John Dobkowski for Gauting and led his team to a 6-0 shutout, their first win of the season. He struck out nine in seven scoreless innings.
At the plate the latest additions made their impression. Shortstop Kory Twede put the Indians ahead with his first homerun in Germany in the third. Andy Kropf, who had arrived a few days earlier, drove in three. Manuel Moeller took the loss for the A’s. They couldn’t get the second game in, which was postponed after one inning.
The doubleheader between the Heidenheim Heidekoepfe and the Haar Disciples was postponed due to rain.
