Recaps South: Buchbinder Legionaere continue Winning Spree in Mainz

Mainz Athletics – Buchbinder Legionaere Regensburg 2-7, 0-5

Benedikt Antwi (W 2-0) and Philipp Hoffschild combined to allow just two hits to lead REGENBSURG to a 7-2 victory in game one of their doubleheader on Saturday in MAINZ. Antwi started and conceded just one hit, two runs (1 ER) and four bb in five innings. Hoffschild later shut the door completely, throwing four innings of one-hit, one-walk relief. The offense provided the necessary run support through a four-run third and added a bunch of insurance runs afterwards. Daniel Husband drove in two. Matt Vance, Ludwig Glaser and Klaus Hopfensperger each scored two runs apiece. Hendrick Schewe scored both runs for the ATHLETICS. Manuel Moeller (L 2-1) gave up six hits, seven runs (6 ER) and six bb in 6 2/3 innings.

In the second game the BUCHBINDER LEGIONAERE again scored four runs in an inning in a 5-0 shutout. Matt Vance scored twice to bring his day total to four. Ludwig Glaser, Klaus Hopfensperger and Cedric Bassel got RBIs. Eddie Aucoin (W 2-0) pitched seven scoreless innings, allowing just six hits and a walk, while striking out four. Rodney Gessmann replaced him for the last two frames and struck out five of the six batters he faced to close it out. Nils Hartkopf (L 1-2) was responsible for three hits, five runs (1 ER) and three bb in five innings, striking out seven.

Haar Disciples – Gauting Indians 2-4, 3-4

The INDIANS won the first game  in HAAR 4-2. After both teams had scored once in the first four frames, GAUTING regained the lead in the fifth through runs by Brad Dutton and Bernhard Huber. They added an insurance run in the seventh, before the Disciples cut the deficit to a run in the bottom of the ninth. But the late rally was too little too late. Paul Waterman (W 1-2) pitched eight solid innings for the win. He gave up just five hits, one run and a walk, while striking out four. Gregor Klinc (L 0-3) allowed twelve hits, four runs (3 ER) and a bb in seven innings.

In the second part of the doubleheader the DISCIPLES already smelled victory after overcoming a 0-2 deficit and leading 3-2 (two-run homerun by Ty Eriksen in fifth, RBI double Hendrik Koch), going into the ninth. The INDIANS came back in the top of the ninth. Lasse Bischof opened with a triple, but Jonas Lord and Bernhard Huber struck, respective flied out to make it two outs. Johannes Jung stepped to the plate and drove in Bischof with an infield single to third base, tying the game. Dutton followed with a single to move Jung forward and Trey Hendricks got the game-winner with a RBI double to seal the 4-3 GAUTING win. Closer Dominik Hartinger came in and got the last three outs on two groundballs and a strikeout. It was his second save of the day. Chris Clem (W 2-1) struck out eight in eight innings, allowing eight hits, three runs and a walk. Dirk Fries (L 0-1) surrendered ten hits, four runs (3 ER) and a bb in 8 2/3 innings.

Heidenheim Heidekoepfe – Saarlouis Hornets 9-3, 11-4

HEIDENHEIM used a fifth-run third to win 9-3 against the HORNETS in game one on Sunday. Ryan Lilly (2-5, 4 RBI) and Ray Stokes (1-3, 2 BB, 3 runs) hit homeruns. Sam Whitehead reached four times and drove in two. Johannes Stockhausen tripled and scored twice for SAARLOUIS. Markus Winkler (W 2-0) allowed six hits, two runs and a walk in seven innings. Ales Keprta (L 0-3) allowed seven hits, eight runs and four bb in four innings.

In the second match, HEIDENHEIM overcame an early 1-3 deficit through four runs in the third and added six more between the sixth and eighth in an 11-4 victory. Robert Gruber went four-for-five with three runs scored and two RBI. Andreas Janzen got three RBI. Dusty Bergman (W 2-0) allowed four hits, three unearned runs and three walks in six innings, striking out six. Kenny Camp (L 0-1) gave up seven hits, seven runs (3 ER) and two bb in six innings.
