Ivanon Coffie homered for the tenth time this season to lead RIMINI to a 7-1 win in the opener of the series against BOLOGNA, which will decide over first seed in the Italian Baseball League. Six different players of the PIRATES scored on Thursday evening. Rafael Garcia picked up the win with five-plus solid innings, allowing six hits, a run and two bb. Gustavo Martinez closed it out with five strikeouts in four one-hit innings of relief. Jesus Matos was charged with nine hits, four runs and two walks in 5 2/3 innings.

Horacio Estrada struck out eight in seven innings to lead SAN MARINO to a 3-1 victory over GROSSETO. He gave up just one run on two hits, throwing 54 of his 72 pitches for strikes. Gabriele Ermini put the ORIOLES ahead in the opening frame with an inside-the-park homerun. T&A came back in the fourth, tying the contest on a RBI single by David Sheldon. They decided the outcome in the seventh on a RBI triple by Carlos Duran and a RBI single by Ardley Jansen. Juan Figueroa lost against his former team, giving up nine hits, three runs and a walk in seven innings.

GODO went into the ninth, trailing 2-3 after a RBI single by Riccardo Bertagnon got PARMA in front in the seventh. But Felix Escalona evened the score with a one-out solo homerun. Federico Rubboli followed and got hit by a pitch. He then was thrown out by a fielder’s choice groundball by Paolo Tanesini for the second out. Veteran Roberto de Francheschi stepped to the plate and singled to right-center to bring Tanesini home all the way from first. Roberto Cabalisti picked up the win in relief. Mattia Salsi blew the lead and took the loss. Ricardo Palma and Oscar Lira had split the duty on the mound for CARIPARMA in the first eight frames. Emmanuel Ulloa went 7 1/3 solid innings for DE ANGELIS.
Danesi Nettuno – Palfinger Reggio Emilia 8-1

NETTUNO chased starting pitcher William Juarez early, scoring eight runs in the first two innings en route to an easy 8-1 win over REGGIO EMILIA. Manny Alexander hit a two-run homerun. Renato Imperiali drove in three. Jeff Farnsworth struck out eight in eight innings, conceding six hits, a run and two walks. Juarez left after 1 1/3 innings, two hits, six runs (4 ER) and a whopping six bb. Abe Alvarez came in and held the European Cup champion to two unearned runs on four hits and a walk in the remaining 6 2/3 innings.
