Telemarket Rimini kicked off week eight in the Italian Baseball League with a 5-2 win over the North East Knights. Dushan Ruzic (W) struck out 13 batters in eight-plus strong innings, allowing two hits, two runs and three bb. He gave up just three walks in the first eight innings, working on a no-hitter. But the Knights opened the ninth with back-to-back hits to end the no-no bid and the shutout. Former big leaguer Josh Phelps had gotten the Pirates the lead with a solo homerun in the fourth. Afterwards Max De Biase, who had four hits in the game, followed with a pair of RBI singles. Mario Chiarini also drove in a run with a single. Paolo Tanesini added a RBI groundout. Rodney Rodriguez (L) issued seven hits, two runs and two bb. He collected seven strikeouts.
Unipol Bologna – Cariparma Parma 6-4

In a duel of participants in the European Champions Cup Final Four Unipol Bologna prevailed 6-4 against Cariparma Parma on Thursday in the Italian Baseball League. Fortitudo took a fast 4-0 lead after two innings and still led 5-1 after seven innings, when Cariparma made things interesting with three runs in the eighth. But the home team added an insurance run in the bottom of the frame and the defending champion had to take the loss. Joe Mazzuca and Mark Castellitto combined for four RBI. Juan Carlos Infante and Livinston Santaniello scored twice. Rodney Medina crossed the plate twice for the Angels. Jesus Matos (W) allowed four hits, a run and two bb in five innings. Mihai Burlea (L) was charged with six hits, five runs (1 ER) and seven walks in 5 1/3 innings.
